Rules
MERE and DISTRICT SKITTLE LEAGUE RULES and REGULATIONS - 2002-2003 Revised 2018
- The League will be known as "THE MERE AND DISTRICT SKITTLE LEAGUE".
- No Team will be eligible to play in the league whose alley is outside a twelve mile radius of the Mere Town Clock.
- All players must be registered with the Secretary of the League and pay the required Registration Fee. All players must be registered before playing.
- Players to be 16 or over, however it is acceptable to have a maximum of two players 14 or over Each player shall receive a fixture book.
- No player can be registered for more than one Team. The League secretary to furnish such a list when called upon. No member withdrawing from the League shall be allowed to sign on for any other Team during the season.
- A Team playing an unregistered or disqualified player shall forfeit the match and the points awarded to the opposing Team. A further 2 points will be deducted from the offending Team for playing an unregistered/disqualified player.
- It will be the Captains responsibility to register/pay fees for all players signed on. To abide by the Rules of "THE MERE AND DISTRICT SKITTLE LEAGUE". To be responsible for all cups and trophies.
- Registration fees for the forthcoming season must be paid at/or before the evening of the AGM. All Teams must be represented by a member of their Team and register the Team before 8.00pm on the evening of the AGM.
- New Teams - Any new Team wishing to join the League, must in the first instance make a request in writing to the League Secretary. The League Secretary will then add the request to the list of "New Teams". The order of the list will be controlled by the date of the request, i.e. the earliest request date will be first in the list and so on. In the event of a place or places being available, the first Team/Teams from the list will be invited to attend the AGM for full registration.
- The League matches shall consist of 8 players a side, 6 hands with 3 balls to each hand. A win to count 2 points and a draw 1 point. Each Team to play one leg alternately. All pins to be down to count. Any pin's) being supported by the side of the alley (i.e. leaning against), is deemed to be down.
- Individual score is open to all League and Cup matches.
- The number of Teams constituting the League will be at the discretion of the Committee.
- The Home Captain must send the result of the match to the League Secretary within SEVEN DAYS or lose 2 points.
- Players Full Names to be written on the score cards, i.e. Andy Other, plus the RESULT of the match.
- All matches to be played on Home and Away Alleys. All Teams to name their alley at the time of entry.
- All matches to start at 8.30pm.
- Any player arriving late will forfeit the hands already played.
- 48 hours notice must be given to the League Secretary and the opposing Captain in case of cancellations. Failure to give such notice will mean forfeiture of the match.
- Any cancellation matches to be re-arranged within 10 days, both Captains to notify the League Secretary.
- No member of the Committee shall vote on any dispute to which their Team is a party of and they shall leave the room during such voting.
- No Alley shall have more than 4 Teams playing on it.
- Front pin to be marked, preferably white.
- Gentleman's Agreement: The ball to land on the Alley before the white line.
STICKING UP RULE
- "Stickers-up" fee to be £1.00 per player. Minimum age for "Sticker-ups" 14 yrs.
- It is a gentlemen's agreement that the home team, if possible will arrange for "sticker-ups" for all league and cup games. However if this is not possible the home team home team captain may contact the away team captain to allow to provide "sticker-ups" If neither is possible, then each team will take it in turns to stick up for the opposing team when they are skittling.
- Any Team changing Alley must notify the Club or Landlord one month before the AGM. All Alley/Team changes left to the discretion of the Committee.
- The Committee reserves the right to forfeit any Team who is not abiding by the rules of the League.
- The Committee reserve the right to amend the rules as and when required.
- Any ball that strikes any part of the Alley before hitting the pins is deemed a dead ball. Any pins subsequently hit by that ball will remain down and shall not count.
- LEAGUE MATCHES ONLY
Any team that has only seven players may play league matches and allow ‘player 8’ with a total of 35 pins per game. (i.e. 6 pins per hand and 5 on last hand). The score board and Result Card must be annotated Player 8. In the event that a player arrives late – rule 17 applies.
NOMINATION KNOCK-OUT RULES
- All players must be registered with the League.
- The Front pin must be struck down by the ball before any score counts. If the front pin is struck but not knocked down then the front pin shall remain where it stands and any other pins knocked down shall be removed and not count towards the final score. Thereafter the player must nominate any pin left on the Alley, and this pin must also be struck down by the ball to score.
- Any pins struck down, which does not include the nominated pin, will be removed from the Alley and be termed as dead, e.g. if a player with their first ball strikes down six pins without striking down the Front pin and then strikes down the remaining three pins with the second ball, these three pins only will count and the third ball will not be thrown.
- Should the Front pin become down, other than struck by the ball, it will be reset, any other pins knocked down will be removed and count as dead. Nomination Top Score is open to all Nomination matches.
CAPTAINS CUP RULES - 2002-2003
- Participation in the Captains Cup is restricted to the Teams registered Captain or Vice Captain, with the exception that, whom ever plays in the first round must continue through to the conclusion of the competition.
BERNE AYRES NOMINATION PAIRS & JACK ALGER SINGLES RULES - 2018
Both of these are knockout competitions, however the first round of these competitions will be played under the same rules as the Ralf Guy and the Captains cup competitions i.e. all players will play and the top eight scores will progress to the next round and so on. On finals night the competitions will revert back to the knockout format
